Faculty and staff to receive two additional paid holidays

Dear Iowa State faculty and staff,

Governor Reynolds has announced two additional paid holidays as a show of appreciation for state employees’ response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the derecho storm.

Iowa State University will implement these paid holidays on Monday, November 30 and Tuesday, December 1. This will provide employees with the potential for six consecutive days off (including the weekend), following the conclusion of the fall semester on November 25. Normal holiday procedures will be followed on November 26, 27, 30, and December 1.

While on this extended holiday break, we encourage you to prioritize health and wellness. Time-off is an important tool to support work-life balance. All employees need time to relax and recharge. During this time, please continue to protect yourself against COVID-19 and do your part to stop the spread – wear a face covering, practice physical distancing, wash your hands often, monitor yourself for symptoms, and stay home if you’re sick. 

Supervisors should begin to review and make decisions on necessary operations and work schedules for the additional paid holidays. Units should communicate these changes to their employees, customers, and constituents. We also want to remind you of the guidance for the university’s 2020-2021 winter calendar, which has been updated to reflect the two additional paid holidays.
