Employee Benefits Changes for 2022

Dear Iowa State University faculty and staff,
Last October, prior to the start of the 2021 plan year, Iowa State University announced a decision to increase employee health care contributions for the first time in seven years. In last fall’s announcement, we noted that additional incremental changes would be implemented in the coming years to address costs of the program.
After careful consideration of all options and a review by the University Benefits Committee, the university will again increase premium rates for 2022, effective January 1. We thank the University Benefits Committee for its review and appreciate the input on this decision.
The new monthly PPO and HMO employee contributions are shown below.

Even with the new contributions by employees, Iowa State University will still pay nearly 90% of the overall health care costs of the plans. While the university will continue to work to hold down health care costs, additional changes on a regular basis may be needed to keep up with rising health care costs.
